At first glance, these findings may not seem entirely negative.
After all, if someone loses a substantial amount of weight and maintains approximately 25% of that loss over the long term, there are still likely to be meaningful health benefits.
However, the researchers highlighted a potentially important concern.

Study lead author Budini noted:
"If the regained weight is disproportionately fat, individuals may ultimately be worse off than before in their fat-to-lean mass ratio, which may have adverse consequences for their health."
